Water and the Oceans
Created by
This new Activity Kit explores the topical concept of Water and the Oceans. The ocean and other bodies of water have essential functions in regulating the Earth's climate and weather. The ocean supports the life of nearly 50 percent of all species on Earth and helps sustain that life providing 20 percent of the animal protein and 5 percent of the total protein in the human diet. With the BBC's Blue Planet raising awareness of the amount of plastic in our oceans and its damaging effects, this activity kit will provide a way to discuss the threats to the planet's oceans and issues relating to ocean sustainability. With this Think Global Activity Kit for Key Stage 3 (ages 11 to 14) teachers and learners can:
- Explore global issues related to ocean sustainability
- Investigate the threats to the planet's oceans
- Consider ways to reduce their own impact
The Activity Kit contains two activities. Activity 1 brings a global dimension to Geography by developing an understanding of natural resources and how human processes influence and change landscapes, environments and the climate. Activity 2 will aid understanding of how human and physical processes interact to influence, and change landscapes, environments and the climate; and how human activity relies on effective functioning of natural systems.
