One of the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals is to ensure access to affordable, reliable, sustainable and modern energy for all.
This resource has been developed by the British Council in partnership with the Royal Society. It provides scientific background information on the issues surrounding fossil fuels, carbon emissions and climate change, and the challenges of producing sufficient electricity for human needs.
It focuses on the topic of renewable energy and has the following activity ideas to help students age 7 to 14 discuss and explore the subject in more depth:
- What keeps your lights on? Research and investigation activity.
- Windmill energy challenge: Building a basic windmill and learning how to make it efficient
- Solar heating: Building an effective solar heater
- Cross-curricular activities such as research, designing a campaign poster; role playing the debate around large energy projects; acting as 'energy champions' in school.
