Respect and dignity are foundational values that when embodied, foster environments where people feel valued and understood. These values promote positive interpersonal relationships, enhance trust and cooperation, and ensure that individuals are treated fairly and compassionately. Furthermore, they are essential for personal well-being and harmonious community living.

Classroom question of the month:

What do you do to make other people feel respected?

Let’s practise!

Students write about what they respect about another classmate and see if they can guess who it was that wrote theirs!

Class Activity 1: Praise Pass

  • Step 1: Get students to write their names on a piece of paper and then put them all in a hat.
  • Step 2: Ask students to pick a name out of the hat, ensuring they do not get their own name, and then, write a sentence about what they respect about the person they have received on the same piece of paper.
  • Step 3: Afterwards, everyone should put the pieces of paper back into the hat and they should be re-distributed so that everyone has the piece of paper with their name on.
  • Step 4: Next, get students to read out the sentence written about them and see if they can guess which classmate wrote it.
  • Step 5: At the end, students can reveal whose sentence they wrote.
