Created by

This DVD resource has been filmed in Bangladesh and emphasises contemporary thinking about hazard events. It explores the physical and human causes of flooding in Bangladesh, including climate change. It then explores the social, economic and environmental impacts of this flooding through the personal accounts of people living by the major rivers and on Bangladesh's char lands. It provides examples of a variety of creative flood management strategies including the pros and cons of hard and soft engineering. It also shows how NGOs such as Oxfam, Practical Action and Christian Aid are working with flood affected communities to alleviate poverty and reduce their vulnerability to future floods. As well as the 30-minute film, there are extensive teachers' notes and student activities. The resource links in with many English exam board specifications; for further details, visit the Pumpkin Interactive website.
