December is about Love Each Other
Created by
To achieve a fair and compassionate future, we must address social justice issues like racism, poverty, gender discrimination, and climate injustice. Love and generosity are key; they foster a supportive, inclusive community where everyone feels valued. Collaboration enhances our effectiveness, allowing us to learn from and support one another, understand interconnected issues, and ensure all voices are heard.
Classroom question of the month:
What are you grateful for at this time of the year? What can you do to make others feel happy too?
Let’s practise!
Create a physical web of connection where students can talk about unfair issues.
Class Activity 1: 15 - 30 min
Classroom activity: Circle of connection
Task: Using stories and string to make a web of connection
- Step 1: Have the class sit or stand in a circle, facing each other. Give one student a ball of wool or string. They should share an example of something unfair or unjust happening in the world, either globally or locally. After speaking, they loop the wool or string loosely around their wrist and then throw the ball to someone else in the circle. Continue until everyone has spoken and looped the wool or string around their wrist.
- Step 2: Observe the web of connections created. Highlight that everyone in the world is interconnected. Explain that when one strand of the thread is damaged or weakened, it affects the whole web, symbolising our shared responsibility to ensure fairness and justice for all.
