SOS-UK's Global Goals Teach In

SOS-UK are hosting their fourth annual Global Goals Teach In, and they would love you to join them.

Who are SOS-UK?

SOS-UK is an educational charity created by students and staff at NUS in response to the climate emergency and ecological crisis.

They exist to support students to be the change that society urgently needs to get us out of the climate emergency and ecological crisis, and to deliver climate justice. Their campaigns and programmes are led by students, who want to break the cycle of well-educated people making bad decisions for the planet.

For the fourth year running they are leading the Global Goals Teach In, from 22nd February - 5th March, and they would love you to take part.

What is the Global Goals Teach In?

This annual campaign calls on educators to pledge to include the UN Global Goals for Sustainable Development (SDGs) in your teaching and learning throughout the two weeks.

SOS are inviting all educators to pledge now using their online form to incorporate the SDGs in your teaching, learning and assessment throughout the Teach In, and share with your colleagues.

To take part, include the SDGs in your teaching, learning, and assessment in one or more of your courses between 22nd February and 5th March. This can take the form of case studies, debates, discussions, group work, or simulations relating to topics included within the SDGs. Last year, 300 educators reached 25,000 students in discussion around the SDGs and their relevance to their subject.

To add some friendly competition, they will be releasing weekly updates with a leaderboard of the institutions that are reaching the highest % of their students with the Teach In, and the institutions with the highest number of educators who have pledged.

The Teach In is suitable for all educators, from all forms of education and all disciplines. SOS-UK welcome teachers, lecturers, trainers and anyone else to take part!

Why is it needed?

According to the latest SOS-UK research, 83% of students would like to see sustainable development actively incorporated and promoted through all courses, and the Teach In is a great springboard for meaningful engagement in this area.

The Teach In aims to:

  • Raise awareness of the importance of sustainable development.
  • Catalyse curriculum reform and test new ideas.
  • Embed sustainability and social responsibility across all learning.
  • Link teaching, learning, and assessment to local and global concerns.
  • Prepare students with the knowledge, skills, and attributes to tackle the world's greatest challenges.
